The town is renowned for its ancient monuments, including the renowned Julfa Cemetery, which was once home to thousands of intricately carved Armenian khachkars (cross-stones). Sadly, much of this cultural heritage was lost during the Armenian occupation of Nakhchivan, which resulted in the destruction of the cemetery and the expulsion of its Azerbaijani population. Despite these tragic events, Julfa remains a symbol of resilience and cultural diversity, with its historic mosques, caravanserais, and fortifications bearing witness to its storied past.
